Waste of money. Dated. Dirty. Run down. Stay far, far away.
The only reason we chose this place and not a national park was specifically for the amenities my kids could enjoy.
Locals have told us that Jellystone Park was once a busy place, but in the past few years, business has dropped tremendously.
8. The weight equipment is all broken in the gym. The gym is filthy - there's so much dirt on the floor that I'm filthy after touching it.
9. Tom sprayed the weeds around the cabins without putting up a sign to warn those with dogs
I would take a close look at who's running the Jellystone Camp and make some needed necessary changes quickly. this is only getting one star because there is no negative stars to give and it won't let you post until you pick one
3. One of the beds had not been cleaned in the room we were checking on
When we first arrived for our check in they were very unorganized and unprepared so the check in process took about 20 minutes, we had 7 girl scouts with us and they were looking around the craft gift shop and "Kay" told our girls to leave and stand outside, very rude. After that we were taken to our camp site ( not impressed at all!) The campsites are not well maintained, there are goat heads everywhere and absolutely zero shade at all, you are literally positioned right next to the dumpster in the back of the campgrounds. All of the RV sites for camping are shaded, grassy and would accommodate a tent, there were plenty of them open for us to stay on, but that was not allowed for some reason. We chose this particular weekend because they advertised a Yogi Bear Birthday Party and Hay ride. Our Girl Scouts were so excited for this! We showed up for the "Birthday Party" all they had for the kids were some coloring books, puzzle and some cupcakes. No games, music, or true fun for the kids. I was told they girls would have an ice cream eating contest and that never happened. We spoke to the lady running the Birthday Party and she said to meet back at the Barn at 7:30 that night for a hay ride. Our campsite was directed directly across from the barn so we set our schedule accordingly and waited for the hay ride to show up. 15 Minutes after 7:30 there was still no one. In the distance we see a truck giving people a hay ride, so we decided to walk up to the main office and asked the lady about the hay ride. She said we were late and missed it. The hayride returned and we asked if there was anyway that they could give the girls a little ride around since we were misinformed by the bar employee on where to meet. The man who led the hay ride was completely rude and inconsiderate, looked directly at the girls and said no, you missed it. The least the guy could have done was give them a ride to the barn where he was dropping off the trailer. This completely ruined the night for the girls and we felt like we were treated very poor by the staff at that point. Keep in mind we decided on this location to camp because of what was offered for the Girls to do there. Also another thing to note, the pool is not in operation! It is full of green nasty mosquito harboring water right by the tent sites and playground! This is less of a camping destination and more of an RV park retirement home! Not recommended if you are looking to take any of your Girl Scout troops or children orientated organizations. We will definitely be camping with our troop else where next year.
To begin with, three pages of rules. Both the wife and I had to be present for the reading of the rules AND SIGN THEM! This is a first, and a last. Last time I darken their door. 5 MPH speed limit (that I signed agreeing to) all the while the escort lady kept looking back motioning for me to speed up. Make up your mind people. Nobody knows how long their sights are. Moved 3x to find one long enough. Rules say do not store items under or around your camper. Full time residents have everything but the kitchen sink under their campers. Electric 50 amp breaker blocked in the on position. I removed that safety violation. Who in their right mind would block a breaker? Oh, these idiots. They likely threw out the mail we had sent there. Finding out upon arrival they don't accept mail drops. That is something which needs to be on your website people! Two places that won't accept mail since 2004. Both in Colorado within 30 miles of each other. I predict out of business in a year.
5. We informed management that the toilet was running but no one ever came to fix it.
We unloaded and went to go do the activities that were listed. There was nothing.
1. When checking the place out for long term rental, There were no available golf carts because other employees or those staying there were on them playing around in the park.
4. When we arrived at 10pm with a u-haul after packing up and moving 3 hours from our home, we were met by Tom, the manager, with a "I don't know you" and "you can't park your trailer here". We explained that we have a tag, showed him the tag and he still said we couldn't park the trailer there. We asked him if he wouldn't mind that we park out of the way of all traffic in the back of the park and that we would be taking the u-haul to our storage unit first thing in the morning, so the trailer would be in no one's way. He still said no and when we asked him why, he said "because I said so". Not a very good answer from a manager to a paying customer.
I complained to management who said regarding the non existent hot tub: "it's permanently closed", about the listed daily activities: "we only have activities on the weekend", about the arcade: "those are the board games. We have to call it that."
We found all this out shortly after arrival. I then asked why we were even staying here to which she replied, with some attitude, "I don't know."
I would like to report on the poor management at Jellystone Park of the Black Canyon in Montrose, CO:
At the next RV park we went to, there were 3 other couples there from Jellystone that moved due to the poor management.
This experience will ensure I never stay at any Yogi franchise ever again. We will definitely be moving on in the morning instead of staying another two days as planned.
If you want to relive Nazi Germany through the eyes of Anne Frank, then you would love this place! Tom, the "Manager", will certainly make it happen for you! Suffice it to say, I could type out a big, long review about the atrocities and the abundance of "rules" in this place, or you could just take my word for it and stay away from there! All of the other bad reviews accurately describe the same kind of events we experienced when we were there. The good reviews were obviously written referencing some other Jellystone park, definitely not this one, and were accidentally applied to this park's Google Reviews. Plus, even the landscaping sucks (rocks & dead weeds). But don't you dare even step on one of Tom's sprinklers... I would give this place, and specifically Tom, negative stars if I could.
7. I asked for an empty package to be delivered to the park, because I couldn't get it delivered to my PO Box and they said, "no".
6. Tom, the manager, walks around with a gun in his holster - this scares our young son
Amenities and activities are listed on the website and throughout the camp.
2. There were spider and cob webs all over the buildings - like they hadn't been cleaned in years
I then asked if we could simply leave and she said, "sure but you're not getting a refund"
Do not ever stay here. When we arrived at the campground that we planned to tent camp at, there was a huge wind storm and we were advised not to tent camp. We decided, instead, to upgrade to a cabin at $100/night.
Then she proceeded to tell me that "I have to understand" that this Yogi is not like others where you go to enjoy the park. People come here for the location. I'm not sure why I should have understood that.
